had a break in cable, ordered new. New one did not have threaded fitting that goes into handelbar grip. Snaked it in. Can engage carb but will not retract. Was fine before cable broke. Are there different throttle handles in that year? Thanks in advance.

Sounds as if you have the early or original style cable for the chrome metal throttle handle and the later plastic throttle handle used on up to now.
If you have the older chrome throttle you will need to pull the adapter off the old cable and reuse it as it is part of the throttle and not the cable (should you have unscrewed it).sigpic
