  • HT vs ST Trasmission 2019 800

I'm trading my older Argo in for a Avenger 800 and the unit that the dealer has is a HT. He had thought it was an ST but it is not. I was asking about switching to a HT as I do a ton of plowing with my Argo (old one was a Avenger 750 EFI 2007). I typically leave my Argo rubber tracks on all year and do tow stuff for building and firewood.

I think that for my use the HT might not be a bad choice as I do not do many (if any) long trips and basically I'm always working with the machine. I do know that it can affect resale value as the market for the HT is smaller.

My only concern which might be nothing is the slower top speed affecting how well it will do in deep snow as that is one thing that I deal with on the lake. I was not sure if it might not get up to plane so to speak.

Does anyone have experience with the HT after having a ST? What are you thoughts about it?

I have bought my 2013 Argo 700HD with the ST trans and upgraded to the HT trans. Depending the market the HT are more sought out for track use and worth more. The biggest difference I found was sure top speed by maybe 5kph or 3mph but mostly the engagement torque on take off. Where you will burn or slip your belt in High gear on the ST you can easily drive the HT with ease even under heavy load like deep mud and heavy loads.
I noticed this mostly for crossing downed trees where you have to stop and creep over. I found with the ST trans it was best to use low range to not burn the belt at engagement. It got real old real quick all day popping it in and out of high and low range. Even with tracks my machine rarely if ever comes out of High range now except when I want full skid steer.
Now for the snow, I find the HT even better to get on plane and the top speed through deep snow is basically the same. With tracks on my unit at least with the weaker 700 24HP motor compared to the 31hp HDI I couldn't hit top speed in deep snow. With the HT trans I can and it holds power better on hills too.

Thanks for the insight and it sounds like the HT will be a better fit based on my use. Also glad to hear about being able to stay in high gear.
I have not driven with an Admiral trans so that should be a nice from what I have heard.

The Admiral trans is amazing! It's like Power Steering for Argo's. I can drive around all day with one hand and not be fatigued.
