Had to trailer it to a shop to have them replace the winch. I got the old winch back and gave it away and I swapped the steel cable for a synthetic cable and never had the binding problem again.
Is the cable on yours steel or synthetic?

I Have yet to use the winch on my Argo so the steel cable is still new!
I should put a synthetic one on but it’s for sale and new so what would be the point...
Still shredding the fields and woods up with juggernaught?

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
Joe Camel never does that.
Advice is free, it's the application that costs.

Like Jim said if the winch runs one direction you can switch wires at the winch motor. I test run winches with a known good battery and jumper cables. Switching cables on terminals runs winch opposite direction. You need to do this to get a jambed up one free again.

I just helped a friend out who had the same problem. His issue was that he wound the cable tightly over itself and only had about 9' of cable he could use. It was so tight that even two full sized men couldn't free it up. Finally we came upon the idea to attach the free end to a tree and backed the machine up while the winch was in free spool. It freed it up and we got the cable rewound properly. That was on a four wheeler with a mount that the owner couldn't see the cable as it wound up. We then fabricated another winch mount where he could see the cable wind up on the drum.
