  • questions about tracks

I have a argo 6x6 bigfoot and used my tracks yesterday. about 4 hrs into the ride my right rear tire came loose. after future inspection i found that 3 lug bolts were torn from the axle hosing, and 2 lugs were missing there heads.

so my question is running tracks over some rocky areas cause to much for tuorc, or it was just bad pms on my part.

i bought the argo last month and put 14 hrs on it. sure do love the machine.

Sound like "chain wind-up". The tires are different diameters ( pressure) and the chains and the tracks are at battle to see which side gives first. It looks like the chains are winning and the lug bolts are losing.

In general, I find tracks to be hard on drivetrains. I use them on both of my Argo's in the summer and winter, but not when I know I will be running in Dry/Rocky ground. I believe that they should only be used in Swamp/Muskeg and Snow.
I think liflod is right, chain windup can be a real issue, especially in dry conditions.

Just to be clear, you said LUGBOLTS, but then mention the AXLE HOUSING?
I take this to mean that it was the Brng Housing bolts that failed? Not the bolts on the axle Hub/Flange? Was the brng, or the axle damaged?

Were you able to drive the machine out with the damage?

rock doctor i might have used the wrong word (axel housing), the part that broke is where the lug bolt are attached to the axel. pond further looking in better light and not cold and pissed off. the lug bolt that i though were sheered off were actually the lug backed off of the spacer nut(lug bolt extender). wife has the camera will try and get a photo to show what my words are probably not explaining well enough.
