This has been gone over quite a few times, but once again here we go!
I was originally going to use anoil cooler & blower to heat the passenger compartment. I did all the research I could. What i found out was the oil flow through a cooler is moving at a verry slow GPM. Back to the drawing board.
Some of you know I'm an old VW nut. I was standing over my bigfoot today trying to figure out a way to pipe in some heat, and bam! VW style heat! Use that hot exhaust for something!
Here's what i came up with! I will tap into the brake fan with a 2" hose outlet. I'll use a peice of VW flex hose (it's 2" ID) to vent it from the blower to the heater pipe. (Heater pipe will be a peice of 2" OD exhaust pipe with a 90* bend) I'll place another flex hose from the heater pipe to the dash.
The heater pipe will be roughly be 20" long running across the muffler heat sheild, front to back. There will be a 90* bend, and roughly another 8-10" of pipe pointing twards the drivers side at about a 20* downward angle. The heater pipe needs to be welded to teh muffler heat sheild, roughly 1" from the edge of the engine compartment, and you may need to add some automotive heat sheild padding on the bottom of the hood to protect it against the heat! This should be plenty long enugh to let the heat of the muffler transfer to the heater tube. I may eventually add some sort of restriction to the dash end of the tube to slow down the flow, and get adequate heat.
Now for my problem!!!!
What can i use as a vent on teh dash? I prefer somthing that can be closed for warmer days, and in some way adjustable to point up for defrost!
