  • LCD Cluster no display

2012 Frontier 650. out in the rain, cluster fogs up on the inside after and display stops....displaying.
Opened up cluster and first thing I feel is wrong is the lack of a gasket. There was no sign of water getting inside which surprised me considering the condensation.
Left it out in the sun for two days to dry, bagged at night to keep dew off.
I now have one big lit orange square, the whole face is lit but just a light orange no details.

First question: Are they supposed to have a gasket?
Second question: Anyone have experience with drying them out and working again?

Can you remove the display unit & put it in a sealed Tupperware container full of rice? It'll draw out any remaining moisture.

Yes it has been dried and it does now show a backlight now but nothing else.
The replacement of the digital unit raises another interesting question. Where is the data stored? I would think the data is stored in the digital unit itself therefore replacing it would show the argo with low data.

Perhaps member scimansteve could help, I thought of contacting himself.

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
            Joe Camel never does that.

Advice is free, it's the application that costs.

Those displays look similar to types in honda rancher atvs they are prone to sun fading and similar issues. I had a clone of a rancher and used a hair dryer to bring the lcd back to life (was really faint ) there is various writeups for dealing with them. In case of mine at the time the layers in the lcd separate over time and fade or stop displaying so sometimes if you heat them up they can be brought back to life.
