  • aquatorque swimming problem

I have bbeen trying all sorts of things this year witth my new aquatorque tires. They have absolutely no motion in water. I had to use my trolling motor to get to my camp. But I took off the center tires and replaced them with standard argo carlisles and I can now swim upstream not as good as my old rawhides but good enough for this hunting season. I guess a full set of aquatorques have too much cavitation.

are the tires all the same size? I only ask as I thought and could be very mistaken, that running different tires is not good for the drive train.

no the 4 aquatoques are 25x12x9 and the 2 carlisle are 8.5 rims i believe

I would venture to say there are tire size differences. They may all be the same stamped size 25x12x9 but because the government does not regulate the tires made for not for hiway usage, size varies greatly.
You can measure the tires with a taylor's tape, on your vehicle I would place the smaller A.T. tires in the front, the Carliles in the middle and the larger A.T. tires in the rear.
Trevorakm1 makes a good point though that mixing tires is not great for the drivetrain as you have different levels of tractive force (grip) coming on the same side of the drivetrain, which isn't good for chains and bearings.

the aquatorques are much heavier than the rawhides. I had tried higher than recommended air pressure, low pressure and even put six cement blocks on the rear to raise the front end. all to no avail. but taking off the 2 middle tires and replacing them with 2 older chevrons I finally got it to swim on its on. I may try the agressive carlisles after hunting season if i can get them resonable. thanks for the input

adair agro has videos of these aquatorques swimming a bigfoot and I think on an 8 wheeler also. Not sure what you have OP. the bigfoot seems to need to be rocked side to side to get some foward momentum. I also remember people here buying aquatorques when they first came out and reviewing them as not so great swimmers and very hard, making them uncomfortable.
Best tire swimming video of a six wheeler was a frontier with the newer argo carlisle tires. It was quick in the water for a six wheeler. Those tires also give quite a bit so more comfy ride and better for the bearings.

Someone here to reach out to is Dan Edwards, he's seems to try it all. There are plenty of videos from him and some with Noel also, who also happens to be a good info resource.

Tim from Adair Argo seemed to like the A.T. tires. They are well built and function. I noted that they take alot of effort to turn the machine with though. They are considerably heavier than almost any other tire too.

Here is a Video of Tim with a Bigfoot equipped with Aqua torque tires, he modified these tires somehow, not sure what he did.

you're right. rocking the frontier makes a big difference in picking up forward momentum. I have no problems now getting to camp I just cant carry as much weight as I used to do todue to limited bouyancy. The A. T. idle tthrough the mud as I thought they would but I think I will go to the carlisle agressive next year.
