  • Help needed from the collective 6X6world braintrust - Conquest 8X8

I'm new to the world of 6x6 and 8x8 and have been thinking about an Argo to use here in Florida where muddy and flooded conditions are the norm for the trails during the summer season. Plus I like the idea of taking fishing in the Everglades once in a while. I found an argo Conquest 8X8 for sale and have agreed on the price pending a video and FaceTime session of the machine running and operating. (First checking the fluid levels are topped off) It's out of town so I will have to rely on Uship to get it to me so I want to avoid as many surprises as possible.

The seller states that it runs fine and has a little over 500 hours on the 20hp Kawasaki water-cooled engine. However it is not charging. It has been sitting for 5 years unused and was owned by his father in-law. He is not sure of the year. The only extras included are a set of tracks.

I'm pretty mechanically inclined, so I'm not afraid to do some work.
My question is, what should I ask, or look for that would be potential for concern?
Where should I direct him to find the serial number to know the year?

Any advise or direction would be greatly appreciated.

Price would have to be very low for vehicle of this age. From pics I believe it’s close to 20 years old at newest. Repair parts for the transmission are discontinued for several years now. There is a buyers guide on this site. At least the vehicle must be picked up and feel of the axle bearings. Having set for years I would be concerned about rust in axle bearings and chains. Must also get pics or video of inside tub without any floor boards in place. Charging problem could be as easy as a bad fuse, missing belt on alternator or as bad as a stator replacement. That requires quite a tear down of the flywheel end of the engine. Tires are another major expense if they have be replaced. From pics they are worn but can’t see if cracked or not. Good luck
