  • New owner of a cattail marsh and a 2021 6x6 Frontier; Are tracks recomended?

Wow, I looked at many of the nearly 4000 threads for information and I have seen a lot of spirited conversations on tracks, etc. I am new to the AATV world and this forum site so please be kind. I have ordered my Argo but have not picked it up yet from the dealer. Situation: I own a portion of a wetland that is 90% thick cattail marsh and WILD. The water depth in the fall is not much but the muck is 1 foot deep when I am walking and happen to "post hole" in. In spots there is water that is 1ft deep and I'll go up to my waste in muck and water. That usually happens in the late spring at high water level. I have seen a multitude of tracks and videos of people playing in CRAZY mud. I just want to be able to traverse my property avoiding deep water and make some trails through the cattails so I can easily get out and hunt and get in and out without killing myself. The sales guy who gave me advice said I should not buy tracks unless I find out that I need tracks. Makes sense to me. I would like to know from the experienced ones on this forum: Are tracks an absolute must when busting through cattails and i mean a lot of cattails? Can my Argo do respectively well getting through cattails with the stock tire set up? It's a novice question. Sorry for the long winded explanation. If anyone can answer or direct me to the correct threads in the forum, i would greatly appreciate that information.

without tracks you’ll get stuck a lot. Getting stuck bad can ruin your day. As long as you have recovery gear or plan B, then no big deal but still no fun.

With tracks you’ll very seldom if ever get stuck

Biggest misconception is that an argo can go anywhere just because it has 6 or 8 wheels and floats. Not true. Your new machine will likely get stuck right now in the soft stuff w/o tracks

I have to agree with Buzz. As the current owner of an Argo 8x8 and past owner of several Argo 6x6s, as well as many other amphibious machines, experience will show you that the wheeled operation of an amphib leaves alot to be desired. They do lose traction and bog down very easily. Usually with patience and hard work you can rock a machine out by standing up and shaking from one side to another, but sometimes stuck is stuck. A good set of tracks will get you there and back 99.9% of the time. It's still possible to get high centered where you have to revert back to the shaking technique, and hopefully you will never throw a track way back in the boonies, especially if you are alone. It's always best to travel with multiple machines. I've towed many a machine out before, and been towed a few times myself. Good luck on finding the right tracks as several styles are available, and welcome to the sport.

i run my argo 6x6 in the southern eastern shore of maryland salt marshes and flooded pine forests almost exclusively. I use the TruTrax, purchased aftermarket and installed by me (pretty simple to do). I have some video posted on youtube that will show you just what you can do with a set of tracks. I highly recommend you go this route. In addition to practically eliminating getting stuck, you have the added benefit of protecting your tires from penetration except on the sidewalls, and you get some protection there as well.

Can you get stuck with tracks? Absolutely. Can you get yourself unstuck with tracks without any other rigs, only if you have a winch and something to connect your cable to - I keep a boat anchor in my argo that will dig in to the mud enough to give you some traction when winching.
