    Hello. Was climbing out of a pond bank that was steep but doable. The machine kept stalling and cutting out on the incline. Had a difficult time getting up it only due to it stalling. Machine runs fine otherwise. 2021 frontier 600. Any ideas what’s causing this??

    Low fuel in tank.
    low float level in carb.
    High float level in carb.
    low fuel pressure from fuel pump.
    Vacuum leak in fuel pump.
    Build up of corrosion in carb.

    Just a few to look at.

      Fuel was good in tank. The machine has approximately 12 hours on it. I was wondering does this motor have a shut off because of angle and oil pressure. I don’t know. Just jammed me up from getting out of situation as it stalled at just peak of incline.

        hows the fuel filter ? my be worth changing just to see . they don't cost much . could be if it's somewhat clogged up , at a angle the gas gets sucked to the carb faster than it fills the filter . just a thought . j.b.

          You could add a low pressure electric fuel pump and have it on a toggle switch. When you encounter a scenario like that turn it on and that should put an end to that issue. An alternative would be to add a pressure bulb that you can hand squeeze to get the fuel flowing. Or do like me and add both.

          I added each to my Coot for the same reason, fixed the problem forever.

            Thanks for ideas. But I think this shouldn’t be an issue with a brand new machine. What’s your thoughts??? I thought maybe it had a cutoff for low oil pressure or something?? Still in the investigation phase of this problem. Jammed me up yesterday. Damn motor wouldn’t run on the hill. Was a struggle

              I asked another guy (YouTube contributor)with same new 600 Argo what he did with his after him having the same issue. Said he tweaked the governor & seems to be working now. Told him about this forum today, he may be joining.

                That’s similar to what mine was doing. Seemed steeper it got is when it cut out and stalled. It wouldn’t stall every time, but was barely staying running until I rolled backward down hill.

                  New machine, have you contacted your dealer about the issue? I recall back in the day when everything was carbed some people hooked up an equalizer tube that prevented float bowl starving & flooding issues on uphill's & downhills. It's been a long time since I heard about it, but might be worth a looksee for more info if your googlefoo is strong. Or it could be something as simple as turning up the governor. I'd just be a little concerned about messing up the warrantee.

                    Thanks ruffus. My dealer is over 2hrs away. I hope to find a fix myself. Thought maybe someone had same issue with the Briggs 18 horser. That’s a headache bringing it back to dealer. The thing runs fine , I just had issue yesterday climbing out of the pond bank.

                      A booster pump of some sort may be in order. As the rpm drop so does your vacum. The vacum is what runs your pump. At a steep angle, the pump has to work harder to bring the fuel from the tank. Catch 22 situation. You need the rpm to run the pump but can't get the fuel to get the rpm. A tweek in the governed linkage may do it. Try the same thing backwards so you have gravity on your side. If you don't stall out then you know the pump may not be strong enough. May be way off base but sounds good to me. Like the man said to the judge.......seemed like a good idea at the time.

                        Have a steep hill at my hunt camp. When my 2001 bigfoot 18 hp vanguard starts that nonsense on the hill I know it is time to change the fuel pump. The dealer told me the fuel pumps never go but I carry a spare and have change it several times.

                          Laird I was giving the machine solid throttle to get up hill, it was running strong, then started to sputter, stalled once, so the rpms were up. This happened towards the very top.
                          Thanks for the ideas. The vacuum makes a lot of sense. As far as fuel pump being bad, machine has 12 hrs on it and runs fine in all situations, just steep inclines it’s having the issue. Thanks for all the replies.

                            Welcome to the forum.
                            I have had poor luck with B&S engines and have sworn them off on any future engines. On a B&S 23 hp the fuel pump melted several times due to the way it was bolted near a heat source. I made some stand off brackets which resolved most of the issues. Seems that the fuel was boiling off before it made it to the carb. Never have had a similar problem with Kohler, or Honda motors, or even generic Honda clones for that matter.
