  • B.I.O Unlimited Project

Well the project has begun. 78-79' TB 8 Wheeler, Techemsie Engine. Been sitting outside for 10 years uncovered. Thawing out the ice in the bottom (see pics). Engine starts and runs. Had to prime carb with fuel, don't know if fuel pump works yet as it still under ice. Axles seized, have to wait till the ice has all thawed out, to see how the bearings are. I will post here as project progresses.

If it looks like you can't make it, you probably can't, but what the hell you can call in sick tomorrow......right?

Well, you definitely have a nice project there. Glad the motor will run (Once carb is cleaned and possibly fuel pump rebuild) That's one less headache. I'm not finished with the restore of my first 6X6 yet myself, and am curious to see how you make out with the argo.

        Just a thought:
You mentioned that it had been sitting for a period of time?
Chances are that the carb does NOT need adjustments, it probably just needs to be CLEANED. (Unless it was last used under much different conditions than you will be useing it under?? Elevation?)
Pull it apart (It's a good idea to have a gasket kit, becouse the old gaskets will probably be damaged when you take it apart)
Clean all ports, jets, orifices, needles, ect. (A good way to clean small holes (jets) is to get yourself a "tip cleaner" for a Oxy/Acet Torch (it's like a SUPER TINY set of round files). Pick the apropriate size "file" for whatever hole you need cleaned and VERY gently clean the holes out. You want to remove any crud/varnish buildup but you DON'T want to enlarge the holes.

PS, Looks like a nice little project , good luck with it.

Hey me again. Sorry it took so long been busy lately.
UPDATE, re-configured carb linkage, got idle set right, and a/f mix screw was almost all the way in. Runs good, idles good. Broke right side second wheel to third wheel chain, twice ( see above water/ ice for 10 years). Had to build new battery tray, as the chain broke it out when it spooled up under the tray. New diamond #50 on that one, and 1st to second wheel (caught it with the grinder when i was taking out the battery tray LOL). Needs new tires all around (severly weather cracked). Body upper half was badly weather worn, and warped, so I built a new rear section and kept the front hood section ( see pics). Still have to put spray on truck box liner on it, and build rear seats, but it is on there! New Plywood floor pans with 1" spacers underneath, as the plastic ones were destroyed.

Have one tech question. When I turn right I hear a bang noise, like a chain is binding up or skipping. But this is where I changed the new chains. The sprockets look o.k. as does the Tranny to axle chain ( double roller #40). Weird as it drives good, only does it when turning right at 1/2 to full throttle.

I think I know what you a talking about. It sounds like your idler chains (chains from tranny to axle) are loose. My Argo made that banging noise when the bolts on my transmission vibrated lose and the idler chains got too much slack. The idler chains should really have no slack. If the idler chains are loose, its really easy to tighten them up. To tighten up the idler chains, loosen the 4 horizontal bolts near the 4 corners of the transmission. There are 2 bolts with 2 nuts on each, sticking up in front of the transmission (not engine side). Loosen the top nuts (the bottom ones are welded in position) Tighten the bolts until the idler chains have no slack. Tighten back up the top nuts, and the 4 horizontal bolts. That’s it. Hope this helps.

              Hello again,

Thanks for the info EVIL, I will have to check that out, as there is a little play in the trans / axle chains.

update, purchased an alternator from NAPA ( part # 13-8331) 50 Amp output, internally regulated, small body off a 91' suzuki samurai. Only need 2 wires, one from ignition, and one to battery. Has 2 more connectors one for dash light, not sure what other is for ( will check when installed). Still have to make braket and get belt. Found Tires locally for $80.00 each, Kenda Dominators ( probably won't do any deep water anyway). Will post pics of the Alternator install when complete.

LOL.... bet you all thought I died
Got side tracked with R/C trucks, and waiting for tires.
Black waters were discontinued and had to re-order different tires. Got Duro HF-243 Mud and Sand 21x12x8 (see pic) and they are sitting on the floor ready to go on. Broke L.H. Drive chains 1st wheel to drive and drive to second wheel, fixed them tonight. Have to wait to mount tires (need to sandblast wheels... rusty). Still have to fab seats and charging system. Will keep posting as I fix this beast!!

P.S. May have found my "banging" noise..... front axle has 22x10x8 tires and all else are 20x10x8 tires...... may explain chain breakage too....

                        Hi Again;
Nah, most of us with projects have pleanty of delays. I'm a little sad the Black Waters are discontinued, I liked them. Oh, R/C? Hmmm, I have a couple myself (I owned a shop, a friend still does) What do you have?

I got the tires from a local Ford dealer that sells Arctic cat and other atv's. They are made by Duro

Duro Tire & Wheel | Welcome
They were Approx. $60.00 canadian each.

As far as R/C's I have a stock E-maxx with a two speed tranny ( thinking about brushless).

Just bought a Tire changer from Princess Auto here in town, so tires should be going on shortly ( just got a cold snap here and the argo is outside )
