Looking to get my first Argo

Check out KFI winches. Good for the $ and parts available to fix. #2500 minimum or bigger. I would use grease you use on other machines. Nothing special.
They are turtles and don’t turn high rpm. Just stay on greasing them ,, I spoke to a dealer out west and he told me a light lubricating oil on the chains will keep them nice as long as you do it more frequently. I use Lps on mine and the chains are staying nice. I clean the discs for transmission with brake cleaner after I spray all the chains. After the mist clears. I’m sure others have a different way.

I priced out a bracket and decided I could build my own. No special winch. I have a Champion 3500 lb winch I picked up at Canadian Tire on clearence for 120 bucks. I think most winch's have the same basic bolt pattern. You can probably pick up a higher end like a Warn for a lot less than I can up here. You can probably pick up a winch at Harbour Freight that will work just fine. Almost all of them are made offshore nowadays. Depends on your budget and whether you want a wireless remote or are happy with a corded type. Mine came with a dash mounted switch. As far as grease, it is really to keep the water out. I use Shell farm type grease. On the chains I use a spray on chain lube by Castrol. I have read somewhere some guys use a silicon spray. Keep a can of brake clean handy so when you spray the drive chains coming off the tranny, you can spray down your brake rotors. You will understand when you lube your chains. How often you grease and lube will be your choice. I usually do it when I remember to. Not a good excuse but I'm old so I can get away with it.

Again Thanks to all of you for all the great advice.The one thing I was wondering was how are the 6x6 going up a big hill? Theres a lot of hills in the woods I ride in and I've watched a lot of videos on Argos but none I found anybody going up a good size hill or going down one. I know there not big motors in this machine and they do great on flat land but do they have the power to make it up a big hill.

Same , Same Laird. lol. As far as hills, mine stalls out. I spoke to several people and they said put a low pressure electric fuel pump in. I just left the stock vacuum fuel pump in for reliability. I can see electric fuel pump ****tin the bed while I’m in middle of swamp. Then I’m done. If you can get into trouble in woods I’m the guy. Lol

With the 16 hp and the tracks on, I could get up in low range on a fairly steep and long hill......wasn't fast but I did get there. One hill I did have to do the old switchback trick. Haven't tried the same hill with the 23 hp but seems to have a lot more power. I have never had mine stall out due to lack of fuel, but then maybe my steep hill is not the same as your steep hill. Going down the hill, that's where the brakes come in not just for steering. I've had my s x s want to turn sideways on a steep hill but not the Argo. But that's just my limited experience. You will find out things the Argo will do that will make you grin ear to ear, like there is no trail here......let's make one, and other things you may be disappointed in. For me personally, the grinning part is a whole lot more than the disappointed look. They are not a quad, not a side by side, they are their own unique animal that will leave the others behind, not in speed by any means but in certain terrain. But that is what they were and are designed to do. Get into and out of areas others can't or at least shoulden't try to go. In my opinion probably safer than a lot of machines. You definatly will have fun.

This will be the last time I reply on this thread it's starting to get a little long so next time I have a question I'll start a new one. But thanks again you guys really helped me out making up my mind on a few things. My Argo gets delivered tomorrow afternoon can't wait now I just have to tell my wife and make room for it. She told me if I buy another atv I have to sell one that I have I know that's not going to happen I love each one of them. I was thinking of selling my 2 Honda Odyssey because in N.E Pennsylvania there's really no where to ride then.when I was stationed in C.A we used them all the time in the sand dunes that's what there made for. The thing about selling them is I bought them and they were a rack and I rebuilt both of them like new all back to stock then had both powder coated . I know if I list them they would sell fast it's just brakes my heart to see them go. Maybe I'll hold on to them if I ever have Grandkids I'll see what my wife saids about that. Thanks again guys
