  • Fuel not getting to carb.

I'm trying to get my new toy started. It's a 77 Argo w/ Kohler 440.

The fuel is gravity fed from the tank but it doesn't seem to flow when the motor is turned over. I'm off to get a new fuel filter. The old one isn't blocked but needs replaced.

Any ideas on why the fuel may not be reaching the carb? There's no primer bulb and it doesn't seem like the fuel is flowing in to the carb.

i'm thinking either your float is stuck in the up position or the o-ring around the float needle is rotted
the same thing just haooened to me and i took out the o ring pieces and now gas constantly flows out

I got Arctic Cat from the temp gauge in the pic below.

I'll check those items. The previous owner just rebuilt the carb. Maybe he missed something.

        Thanks

i have a blown 440 kohler, the carb has a built in pulse pump.its an odd looking thing, ill get some pics later today when i go to the farm i dont think gravity will work as the tank and carb are about the same level

I think you're right about the gravity. The carburetor is above or level with the gas tank.

My service manual mentions an impulse line that runs back to the gas tank. I don't have any return lines. There is a rubber hose plugged with a screw on top of the carburetor. You can see it just below the "cal custom" letters in the attached photo.

I think a fuel pump is needed, but I don't know enough to install one.

                Fuel Prob.

The picture is a Tillotson carb. It could have a stack of diaphrams on the bottom. If it does, that is the fuel pump. If not, it would have to have a remote mounted pump. The line on top that is plugged is for a primer. Greggv

this is the carb (walbro)that came with my 440.has what seems to be a pulse pump on top,no choke plate.lever near the throttle arm for some type of fuel enrichment.2 lines,1 conect to crankcase,1 to fuel tank.now i know how the fiberglass thing fits!!

                    Thanks for the replies.

I moved the gas tank up above the carburetor as a test, and it finally fired up. It will need a fuel pump because the carb doesn't have one built in.

It's up on blocks so I put it in gear and let things turn for a bit. The right rear tire has a wobble so I'm guessing the axle is bent. There's no play in the bearings, but I'll find the problem before running it any more.

Thanks for the replies everyone! It's nice to have feedback, and every reply helps in some way.

I'll get organized and keep track of my project in one thread soon.
