  • Brake Q Right brake fades and then fails

I have a 2000 Response and the right brake begins to soften and then fail after about 30-45min of driving. The left brake is fine. Any thoughts on the brake issue. The right stick eventually goes all the way down/back without any breaking. TIA.

check the brake fluid level, the brake pads and discs. when the brake is operating fine are both handles left and right engaging at the same point when pulled? the brakes are a pretty easy job on these and Rockdoctor has a good video of the job on youtube.

Sounds like fluid boiling. Drain and flush refill with DOT 5 type. Boil point is a lot higher.

I have experienced the same issue on a 2007 frontier. Left Side. Goes away when running without hood.

Its a well known cooling issue, and might have to do with water or air in the brake lines. The bathtub design doesn't really air-cool all that efficiently.

I'd replace fluid with dot5, bleed and look at ways of getting fresh air to brakes.

The stick fade is as stated fluid boil, again if you haven't yet change the fluid to DOT 5.

If you have the brake fan kit, be sure the blower is running, if so be sure the hose is good, if so be sure the duct is good and close to the rotors. The rotor heat causes the fluid boil. If you do not have a brake fan kit, that is probably the issue.

          Do not ride the brakes.
