Since I've been asking do many questions lately most who keep up with the forum might member I bought a 98 Argo Vangaurd 16hp 6x6 a little more then a month ago and I've had a few problems that you guys help me with. And now I'm thinking of dropping a larger size motor in but in the meantime the 16hp Vangaurd motor I have is bogging down and when I take the air filter off it runs great . I took the carb apart and cleaned it. I tried a new air filter but still the same thing with it on the motor does not want to idle and when I give it gas it back fires and is very sluggish. When I take off the filter idles fine and when I give it gas it has power. I put new plugs in with no difference .

Run some Stabil fast fix as a maintenance item. Just put a little in tank each fill up to keep carb healthy. Works. Something obviously probably dirty in carb. Or with the float causing rich condition. My machine was running horrible and backfiring when I first got it. Fast fix made it all better. Good luck. Hopefully an carb expert chimes in for ya. Good luck.

I've been adding SeaFoam to my tank I put it in all my atv's. I had My Argo out today for about an hour and on the way home less the a block from my house it died. For some reason it just stopped getting gas I could start it every few minutes but it would stall right away. I towed it back to my house with one of my atv's and didn't even look at it because I was pissed off with it..

Thats the one problem with using fuel system cleaners like that on an older machine. Same thing happened to one of mine a while ago. It ended up being little bits of fuel line and buildup came loose and plugged the carb. I ended up replacing the fuel line and the carb, and relocated the fuel filter closer to the engine. Mine is an 85 and it purrs like a walrus. Now that I ķnow it's all clean I put a little cleaner in the gas every few fill up as maintenence. Good luck and you have a great machine. I just needs a little tlc

So I think I found my problem with it not wanting to run. I checked the fuel line and it's fine I checked the pump and it's working so I opened up the carb to see if some dirt blocked the Jets. I cleaned the carb not to long ago. I've been working on atv's for years but today I found something I've never seen befors. I removed the pilot jet and only half came out. When I was removing it I was not forcing it the top half came right out. When I cleaned it last time I'm always careful not to strip it because it's made of brass. I can't figure how it broke but I now know that's my problem with it not wanting to run. I'm going to take the carb off the motor and get the broken piece out and I ordered a new carb for it. Has anyone ever seen a jet brake not from putting it in or trying to take it out. I really don't know what could cause the pilot jet to brake like I said in all my years working on smaller motors this is the first time I've seen it. I was taught when I was younger that carb motors are pretty simple as long as you have 3 things they should run. 1 fuel 2 spark 3 air and I've always found that to be the case. Will I wanted something that would keep me busy and I guess I found it when I bought the Argo. The thing is when it is running fine it's a blast it's just getting it to run fine all the time. When I take one of my atv's or my Rs1 out I'm not worried about them braking down even when I ride by myself but with the Argo it's a different story.

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
Joe Camel never does that.
