Stiff Throttle on Argo Vanguard

I have an 1998 Argo Vanguard 6x6 with 16hp Briggs engine. The twist throttle is very stiff and long. So long that I have trouble getting it up to max throttle and driving for any length of time is hard on the wrist. I noticed that the return spring for the cable is really heavy and is probably designed for a set throttle control (like on a lawnmower). I've tried changing the spring but the problem is any lighter a spring and the throttle doesn't return to zero.
Any ideas about how to make the throttle control better?

Had a similar problem on a 97' Vanguard, finally took the twist grip apart for a good cleaning and lubed up everything including the cable. Working real good now.

A twist throttle thing, try try bring throttle up to were you are comfortable then using your thumb readjust you hand placement for top end, it will become natural. Adjusting your starting grip forward from idle will also help. You need to move an inch or more for full travel, removing any slack at idle will also help.
