  • Model Number help

Sorry if this is a rehash of previous questions. I couldn't seem to find what I was after.

I am new here a brand new owner of what I believe is a 1986 or 87 Vanguard 6x6 that's in pretty good shape. I want to use it to get into my cabin in the winter.

In starting some minor maintenance, I see the serial number and the model number.
The serial number for a Vanguard starts at s6999 and I assume increases sequentially like S7000, S7001 etc. I think I get that.

What I don't see is the differentiation of the model numbers. I think I see 4 or 5 different models Mine is V693-22. I assume the different models had different equipment??

I assume that makes a difference in maintenance?

Can anyone shed light on the different models. For example does one model have one type of transmission and others different?

    Just for Fun.
    And as I understand it
My Argos's serial number is S6999 which according to the manuals would be the first Vanguard made???
Still don't know what the model numbers mean...

I have a 91 Vanguard serial no. s6899. Model V692-22. Argo told me for registration purposes that it was actually a late 91. It came with an opposed 16 Briggs. Your model no. indicates that it is a (V) Vanguard (6)6x6 (93) 1993 What the -22 is I haven't got a clue. Maybe it indicates the two speed trans?????? Does your Argo have the Vanguard engine?
