  • Chain tension with tracks

Hi all, question, my left side chains are very tight on the bottom and have slack on top, all axles, to the point where it is severely wearing into one of the tension pads. what would cause this?

You can't determine over tight chains while the machine is on the ground, chain drive will go tight on one side and loose on the other. Jack the vehicle up with jacks on either end and then rotate the tracks a full rotation, then check the chains. If deflection is out of specs you can adjust the chains then. I've seen many people ruin chains, bearings and sliders by over adjusting.
With tracks, I prefer 1/2-3/4" slack in the middle of the chains for the rear and middle, front chains I prefer tight.
