  • Bearing Grease

    Question on greasing outer bearings.
Ive read the outer bearings are to be greased every 10 hours. Some people suggest grease every time you do a heavy dose of water work. That could be daily.

Seriously, what happens to the grease in the bearing housing for it to need regreasing? Does it vaporise, shrink?????

The outer bearings have two grease fittings, one that leads to a tiny hole in the bearing that theoretically admits grease into the rollers and a second that leads to a chamber on the outside of the bearing that seems to serve only to keep dirt and water away from the actual bearing. This latter, outside chamber is the one where the grease leaks out and washes away. The bearing itself is sealed except for the tiny hole and does not require as frequent greasing as the outside.

i always wondered if water gets in that tiny hole to the ball bearings inside . i was told to line up the outer zert fitting rite over that tiny hole so some grease goes in there .i guess that helps . jboy

I will grease it every 2-3 days when we're out with the machine and more if needed. It all depends on what kind of terrain I'm in. Grease is cheap. Bearring failure can add up quick, if the shafts get damaged.
