  • New Engine for an old Argo (1991 Magnum 8x8)

I bought a Kohler Command 25HP engine to replace the tired 18 HP Magnum in my Argo Magnum 8x8, and now the fun begins. Do I need to get a new clutch for this engine, or can I use the old one? I have heard about needing to come up with a new weight system on clutches for power changes, but I don't know much about this. Also, I guess I'm going to need to redrill mounting holes for the engine, so how do I assure proper clutch belt alignment and belt tension with the engine clutch to transmission run?

    Thanks!

I would measure the crankshaft to transmission shaft of the old engine and duplicat that distance. Then just run the same belt. For the weights you would be fine runnin the same. But seems you have more power you may want it to shift quicker with more weight but I would personally leave it alone. It will be just fine.
