  • 2006 Avenger Tranny

Hi There Just Wondering If There Was Any Avenger Owners That Had Tranny Problems.my Rig Has 90 Hrs On It And When I Was Changing Oil There Was A Piece Of A Clip Stuck To The Drain Plug.i Called My Dealer And He Said Odg Are Doing Up Grades On The Transmition.
Odg Pays For The Parts And I Got Stuck With A Labour Bill Over 500 Bucks.
I Called An Odg Rep And He Said The Warrenty Has Expired And Thats All He Can Do. I Asked Him Why I Did Not Get Any Notice And Then I Could Bring It In For Service Before The Warrenty Ran Outh. I Paid $26600.00 For That Atv Only To Find Out That They Dont Stand Behind What They Sell, leaving Me Standing Behind It Pushing It Out Of The Country.
Hope You Guys Have Something To Say

Sqeeky wheel gets the greese. as they always say( well whoever THEY are?)
I would call them once a week untill they made it right. As far as I'm concerned that is a great way for argo to loose business. Mudd-Ox is looking better all the time.

        Hi LH
I have seen this happen before. Last spring on a friends Avenger, I think it was a 2004.
        The short story:
Friend calls me up, he wants to go to the lake. Problem, he just piled up an axle bearing (bad one), and needs parts. He comes over and borrows Axle, Bearing, seals, and housing.
We head to the lake the next morning. On the way in, he piles up an inner Idler shaft brng. Idler shaft rides up and grinds on the Brake rotor. He baby's it to the lake (Actually he did not know what was wrong, and asked me to take a look at it once we arived)
I fixed the Idler shaft the next morning. He was happy, and went for a ride later. He hit a little bump, on the way to my cabin and piled up the trans (Kinda a LOUD crunch). Avenger sits..........I managed to KICK (Almost literally) the trans out of gear, it was jammed very solid. Once I got the shifter loose, I could shift and drive it. Reverse was fine, but forward was making some gnarly crunching noises. I pulled the trans and hauled it to town for him. He went to Argo and told them his issues. Argo buys the Avenger back from him, and he walks out the door with a new Avenger EFI. Argo fixes the old trans ( I believe the problem had to do with the clip holding one gear on a shaft. Same issue you have, I bet), we haul it out to the old machine, install it, and bring it back to Argo.
        End of story

I have heard about this happening a couple times with some of the early Avenger. I have also heard that the problem is corrected in the newer machines.

Stick to your guns, maybe they will cover the labour for you.

          RD,
In one of your youtube clips your pull out a dead 4wheeler with an argo and you can hear the argo making noise, is that the tranny? my wifes Avenger make the same noise now and then if really under a load. I've been hoping it was just the belt.

              tranny problems

              Hi everyone,

Sorry to hear of the transmission problem. Have had several I have had to break apart and repair and 3 within two weeks of one another. The problem is not necessarly dirrectly related to the transmission but a combination of operator as well as transmission problem. Happens that if the operator gets into the avenger from the right side and the transmission is in low gear and the operator gets his or her foot against the shifter by mistake while hopping into the vehicle the the shifting fork will force the gears farther to the right side on the main shaft and dislodge a snap ring which alows several gears to slide together and lock up the transmission. The snap ring was not thick enough and the main shaft was not groved deep enough. Problem has been taken care of on later transmissions, By the way these were 2005/06 transmissions.

A simuliar problem happened a number of years ago on the Conquest/response transmission. ODG decided to install a guide plate on the transmission to ensure that the shifter was in the proper gear. This created a fulcrum which if the operator got into the machine and got his foot on top of the gear shifter it would force the internal working on the shifter upward and break a snap ring with usually wound up in the planatary section of the transmission therefore distroying the transmission. Everyone have a great day.

Where ever we go we Argo
              Ken

No Problem, although I was having a bugger of a time sifting through my vids, trying to figure out which one you were refering to

I found the vid you were talking about, It's hard to tell, but that might be belt slip.

                        2006 Avenger Tranny Up Date

Well Members Odg Is Going To Pay For All Labour And Parts For My Up Grade That I Was Not Informed About.
I Would Advise Odg To Let All Their Dealers Inform Customers About Any Up Grades Being Done On Argos Before The Warranty Expires.i Feel This Would Be The Right Thing To Do.
Customer Service Should Be First Priority To All Customers And That Would Keep Them Coming Back For More.then They Would Bring Their Friends In To Buy A New Argo And It Would Result In A Win Win Situation.
So Thumbs Up To Odg And To 6x6 World For Getting This Information Out To All Aatv Owners Around.
As We Say In Nfld Right On.
