  • over heating issue!

has anyone ran into a conquest that wants to overheat, tried taking out the thermostat, still running hot, tried new waterpump, that didn't help. will be tring a new rad cap and checking the rad hoses for possible blockage. also i did run some rad flush and put new antifreeze in. just about ready to pull engine and strip it down.

How long does it take, does the guage go up fast or slowly over time? Does the cap lift and vent?

the temp gauge goes up normal, it takes about 25 minutes then starts overheating and blowing by the rad cap into the expansion bottle.

Could your radiator be clogged? Run the motor(cold) with the cap off and look down into the radiator. Can you see cooland moving, and does it have a good flow? Put the cap back on and let it warm up. Is the lower rad hose getting "HOT"? You mentioned that you basically changed everything. Do you know if there are any signs of "Stop-Leak" in the system. I don't care for the stuff as cooling problems usually arise shortly after someone adds that stuff. (The stuff works GREAT for clogging heater cores!!!) Just a couple thoughts.
It's all just nuts and bolts.

when you rev up the engine you do see coolant moving in the top of the rad, when engine is up to normal operating temp the top hose is hot and the bottom hose is cold, pretty much normal, we tried pulling the ice shack out onto the ice and got about a mile from the cabin. to guys can easily drag the ice shack, we were in low range tacking our timei had ran the argo for about a mile and a half the weekend before in high and it seemed ok. but i was only about 15 mins long. only seems to be when driving though, just running with out the trans in gear i could not get it to heat up like that.

              uh-oh argo

A water cooled engine with a weird, unpredictable overheat is often caused by a blown head gasket

i wish that my was that simple, i will be getting to that problem after i finsh going through my dads, his was on the go before my argo was having issues. just got a new engine into his on the weekend , now i have to replace the chains and rewire the argo, after that i can put the fuel tank and seat back in and put the top back on. could take a bit, having all of the seats redone as well, it will be nice when done. oh ya dads argo is a 1983 model 8x8, body is cream color and in very nice shape. when that is done then i can get back to my problem, as well as doing the chains in my argo. i will try to post a few pics of dads argo this weekend. both machine are at work.

finally got back to my argo

it has been awhile since i have been online, i took the engine out of my argo and stripped it down, found the cuase for the overheating. in the water jacket around the cylinders were full of crystals, spent some time and cleaned them out, rebuilt the engine and set it back in, also washed out the tub. i have put about 3 hours on the engine now and no more overheating. also finished putting my dads argo together. we will be trying out both argos next weekend, then off to moose hunting with them.

thanks for all of the input
