  • Looking for more speed

Have just purchased a new 6x6 Frontier 650. Top speed is 25 mph on GPS with tires. Does anyone know of a clutch kit (spring, weights, etc.) that will give me more speed at top end without losing much torque at the bottom end? I put tracks on in the winter and don't want to be switching parts back and forth for different seasons.

LOL, I thank you for the vote of confidence, my experience in this comes from my drag racing days (Snowmobiles), which was a while ago

Increasing top speed has never been a priority for me with Argo's, I'm all about bottom end torque, but here are some thoughts.

Unfortunatly, I don't think there is much you can do with the clutches to increase top speed. There are many things that can be done with clutching alone, but a top speed increase is not one of them with this type of setup.
To increase the top speed from that side of the trans, you are looking at an Input Shaft RPM increase. Once your Clutches are fully engaged, the only thing that will increase the Trans input shaft RPM would be an increase in engine RPM..........Messing with your Engine Governor is not something I would recommend. You could increase it a bit, but not much.

I think the easiest way to get what you want is to change your Brake Rotors.......................Sounds kinda dumb, right....... BUT, Brake Rotors come with at least 3 different Sprocket sets. I think you can get rotors with 11, 12 or 13 tooth sprockets (I'm not sure if this is true for your Frontier, but I was told I could get them for my Conquest). If I'm not mistaken, I have 11 tooth Sprockets on my brake rotors, and if I were to put on the 13 tooth Rotor/Sprockets, I would end up with a little less bottom end torque and a higher top speed. 18% more speed I think, which would work out to almost 30 MPH, Top Speed, in your case.

This was just kinda "off the cuff", I'm sure that there are other options, like trans gearing, but you probably don't want to go there
