  • Track Question

Just purchased Frontier 650 6x6. Heard rumours that plastic tracks are harder on the machine than rubber tracks. Any opinions? Which are harder on bearings, etc.? Frontier comes with back and rear bearing extensions.

Congratulations RWT, In my opinion the top of the line Frontier is a sweet machine. What colour did you get. Argo sells rubber tracks for their new machines that let you keep the outstanding Frontier tires with or without tracks. In the old days we had to have two complete sets of tires. Smaller ones for the tracks. I can't think of any reason that somebody with a new machine would want to go back to that. The rubber tracks give much better traction on ice or snow covered ice and nobody has ever reported worse bearing wear with rubber tracks as compared to plastic tracks on any site that I read. It is important to follow the tire measuring and mounting instructions in your owners manual. They are different than the ones on my 8 wheeler but just as important in my experience. By the way, my friend YELLOW ARGO just put tracks on his Frontier and has posted a few pics on this site. He says that he is very pleased. Happy riding.

I have been running rubber tracks on my Frontier 650 all winter and have had a blast. They ride smooth compared to the plastic tracked machine I have ridden in and deliver reliable controllable power in all conditions. I use my machine to plow snow and with them on and I have to remind myself to stop sometimes it just keeps pushing.

As far a bearing wear the hardest they seem to be strained is the 360's in the driveway after I plow the snow. I have not got into any mud yet but cant wait to see what they run like.

Overall the 650 with tracks has been unstoppable so far.... I have put almost 40hrs on this winter in snow as deep as 2.5 feet of fluffy stuff and have not got stuck once.

Thanks to Gearhead for his patience in the installation The guide repositioning for the used tracks I bought was a two day challenge to say the least!!!!

      Have fun and good riding!
Ya ain't stuck til the winch cable comes out!!!
