outboard what size ?

G/day, this is probably a stupid question but what H/P outboard can you safely put on an early argo. The back is well braced so no problem with strength. Its an 8x8. Have a nice day. Ken from Australia

I use a 3 1/2 HP Nissan long shaft. Very lightweight and dependable..Nice thing about this unit is the gas tank is incorporated in the motor...so no need for any external tank or hookups. I carry a 2 gallon can as a spare...Good luck with your choice and remember these vehicles don't plane so high horsepower is only a waste.

Hi the reason i asked is i have a 15 Johnson sitting in the shed , fits on nicely. But i found out last night that anything over 6 Hp you have to have a skippers ticket now and register it as a boat. The law changed late last year, hefty fine if you are caught without one and possible confiscation of your rig. I am going to use my old 4 Hp mercury now, but it makes me wonder what they will say about the 18 briggs up front. It also has to be registered as a off road vehicle. The weight of all these number plates & registration stickers will probably make it sink anyway. Thanks Guys. Ken.

Well you are in luck becuase i have tried most sizes on an old Argo 8x8 with tracks in the water, we tried the 9.9 wayy to heavy for the old machines, even the 7.5 was a little too heavy, i found the perfect motor to be a 6hp, it is not too heavy, its a tiller control, and pushes very well for what you need, here's a pic of the oldy, i think it was an '84 one of my first Argo's
