how tight is to tight?

i got my tracks on last night but it seems like they could be tighter yet!
i took out a full link but there is still a "half" link in the track.. it does not look the same as the rest of them and it is smaller... if i take this link out i think my tracks will be tight. but is that good to have it that tight?

ok i have a 2003 8x8 conquest i am not sure what kind of tires i have... they are not run a muck and not factory argo tires
the tracks are the plastic tracks and they are used... when i try to climb a snowy hill my tires spin in the tracks.
