don't do anyhting to it. i hunt moose in mine up here in alaska and have gotten much MUCH closer in my argo than with a 4 wheeler just because it is quieter. Honesly man they are not that loud outside of them can hardly hear them. and what makes you get closer to game is the fact that the pitch of the exaust noise isn't changing when you rev it up like it does on a quad bouncing around and exellerating and deexellerating.

I did see one once before that had an external muffler mounter vertically, like a stack on a big truck. I never got to hear it, it was in passing. It did look a little goofy, but probably worked to dampen the noise a little.

Just wondering, is it the engine noise you are trying to dampen, or the trans howl?
A friend of mine added some type of oil additive to his trans, that helped alot. I don't remember what it was, but will try to find out. I've been thinking about doing the same. My trans is one of the loudest I have ever come across.

I cut the noise down some inside by using carpet padding. I went to home depot and bought some spray glue used in drywall corners and some carpet padding. I cut and formed the padding to fit the inside of the firewall. it cut the noise down some and also cut down on the heat that comes into the cab from the engine compartment.

Is the machine that loud?
I lost my Conquest in the woods one time and it was running. The wife and i went to look at something and we forgot where we parked it
Was kinda funny, had to listen really good t hear it. Didn't help the fact that it was green and blended into the background.

The older style argos have room to route an internal tailpipe through the body. It's possible, not easy.. requires insulated double wall and power ventilation, etc. I cured the fumes in the face issue, lost some ground in the noise abatement aspect. The upshot is, I can't hear the whining argo tranny near as well

It's a '97 and the 18 hp briggs that came in it. I probably shoudn't have stunk up this thread about trying to make things quieter. I've enlarged the exhaust channel since this vid.. the problem is heat and polyethelene need to stay apart, and I don't have a solid system I can recommend right now. We could all buy rear engines machines and be done with it
Sound deadening and insulation helps around the firewall, a lot of noise comes through the steering level and shifter holes, too. Might be a silencer could be added to the exhaust tip on stock mufflers. A conquest is pretty quiet in stock form, though. The trans is probably the most noticable? To Invent, you need a good imagination and a pile of junk. (Thomas Edison)

Looks and sounds great!
I really like the setup but the heat would be one of the biggest obsticles i guess. Mine runs really quiet anyway. I have a 95 Conquest with the 20 hp Kawasaki water cooled mtr. It may be better to not fix it till its broke. But I really like your setup.Still want a KID
