what kind of tracks do i want in the summer? i travel on rutted out old cutline roads and the super-tracks seem to bend in a lot more then i like.. then you hear the bang bang bang of the tracks going nuts down there.. i was thinking of getting a standard set of tracks. they dont have the extra flanges on them..
any advice on this???
also the tracks are hard to turn with in the summer. and maybe the other tracks would not rob as much power.

Tracks are for snow.............well, OK, they work good in soupy/muskegy swamplands too.
I would lean away from them in the terrain you describe, but if you must wear tracks...in the summer......Standard Tracks would be easier on your machine. Also, you might want to consider just running "halftracks" around the center 2 tires on each side. I consider this setup to be about 80% as good as full tracks. You also get less "twist" in rutted up places, and less chance of "walking out" of a track (shorter length of track). Of course this would not utilize your brng extensions (front and back axle), but with the shorter run of track you have less stress. Also, most serious loads are taken up by the front and rear axles when climbing into or out of holes. Added benifit is that your machine will be MUCH easier to turn.

i tried to make a half track today but it did not work.. either i had them waaaay to tight to way to loose.. i think i would have to get a different size tire.

scared of sticks

yep i am.. i want to keep my tracks on because i am scared of running around beaver ponds with all the sharp sticks... am i a chicken? or will i really cut my tires up that bad?... i think i have asked this before but i run the super tracks now.. if i run the standard tracks do they work a lot better during the summer? i wanted the tracks on for summer because i wanted the guarding against sticks and they give a better ride when you are going over logs.. but they make it way harder to climb out of muddy holes...
am i just asking for to much or should i just go back to tires for summer and tracks for winter?

OK, this is nothing more than my opinion, take it for what it is

Yes, you are being chicken
No, they will not cut up your tires to badly
Standard tracks will be "less hard" on your machine in the summer.
Toss your tracks into a corner (Keep them for winter, they don't swim worth a crap in the summer anyway), and get yourself a set of 24" Frontier tires for the summer, (instead of another set of tracks). You will not regret it.

i have also been cutting trails and the small stumps i leave behind and a 45 angle and very sharp. i am "chicken" and think i might cut my tires.. you really think i will be fine?

Those tracks are pretty cool, never tried them but watched the vids. I think they look heavy though.

Well, it is possible, but MOST guys don't run tracks in the summer (around here anyway). I do somtimes, but only for the really swampy stuff. I think that if you run about 3 psi in your tires you should be OK. I also slash lots of trails, but try not to leave sharp edges where possible. Of course you will always have some sharp willows, but I have not had problems with it.
Has it been a problem in the past, or is it just that you think you will slash your tires up? Maybe tougher tires might be the answer for you

i got mine from kansas for a great price. and i am thinking about selling it and buying a 2008 EFI...
in my neck of the woods we have a 1997 8x8 with 1100 hours standard tracks winch and it has been used hard. has some cracks that have been fixed in the hull ect.. and they are asking 12,500.
i think i can sell mine for lots more then that.

I bought my 2004 Conquest with Supertracks, Soft Top, and 4,200lb Rule winch in 2006, it had about 150hrs on it. I paid $8,000 Can. I could still get that for it right now, but not much more.

Yes, I think that is a high price. A WELL used machine that is over 10 yrs old, that didn't cost much more than that when it was new. I believe that if the guy gets his price, he's doing very well on that deal.

yea this dealer was very rude also.. maybe he is just looking for a sucker with that price.. who knows maybe i can find a sucker.. he he.. not that i am that kind of a business man... but if i could sell mine for a good profit i might be talked into buying that EFI.. but i a still not sure it is what i want..
they do have a better ground clearance right? i find that my argo gets caught on some stumps.. i am not sure that a few inches would help any? i think i would just find bigger stumps... lol
