  • Bilge pump location???????????

I have an 89 Magnum 8X8 with the Kohler 18hp. I know the bilge needs to be near the front but where do guys locate them? Can it be mounted on the inside of the frame and still get enough water out (without leaving too much sloshing around the chains and bearings)? What about filtering out debris? What do guys do to keep leaves and junk out of their pumps? I bought a small boat bilge and am ready to go - any advise??????????????

mine is in the center under the drive clutch on new 8x8. Does your pump have a built in screen or is it designed to sit directly on the bottom with side intakes? My experience with bilge pumps is they require periodic debri cleaning at the intake on boats I've owned. Hasn't been an issue on the argo, no leaks ...yet

      Bilge issues

I am going to wrap the pump in a piece of aluminum screen to keep the crap out of the bilge. Is your pump inside the frame pan? I assume so as the only other place is near the sprockets and chains - I am having a tough time figuring out HOW to mount the pump!

If you have a small enough in diameter pump, it's possible to mount it behind the front axle in the chain trough. Between the axle and the frame cross member. On a later model response anyway.. don't know what your '87 looks like.

mine is inside the frame beside the front axle end bearing. The machine swims nose heavy so the water will run forward. I don't think you will be able to pump it dry with the bilge pump, just keep the water level down so you don't sink it. If you want to drain the tub park on a slope and pull the bungs. Only my opinion.

I've seen them mounted this way, but don't have one myself.

If I get this corner downhill, all but a couple pints will be pumped out. Can't give a part #.. it's a Rule that I bought.. maybe 5 years ago. A smooth hose flows a lot more water than those flex hoses.
