  • Argo Drive Chain Install (VID)

    OK, this is for those that think there might be a trick to putting drive chains back on an Argo. It's very short, with a couple tips on how I make it a little easier for myself. I have only shown the rear chain install, as all chains use the same theory, the other chains are just a little harder to access (not to mention that they would be harder to film).

    So, anyway, here it is, by request.

    Its going to take longer to get your hands clean than you did the rear chains. Any tricks on changing the double 50??

      lol, It's the same, but like putting 2 chains togeather at the same time. Don't forget your centerplates. Also, like the single 60, I find it easier to put the clip on when the master is just started over the curve of a sprocket.

      On a side note: I use something called "WORX" for cleaning my hands after working on the Argo. It comes as a green powder, or paste. I highly recommend it, the stuff really works good.

        I always put the clip facing the inside of the Argo .Easier to find to remove and easier to install.Also easier to check if the clip is still on.

          RD thanks for all the help that you have given to the rest of us. i do appreciate the pointer and videos that you post. to bad kodiak is to far would like to go for a ride one day with you.

            That's a good point, i used to do them all that way too.........untill I helped a friend on the trail. (This guy is not big on maintenance). He broke a rear chain on his Conquest. After a little investigation, I found a screwdriver stuck between the 2 axle sprockets on the third axle. The SD was kinda stuck there against the floor of the tub, and the chains had rubbed grooves into the handle.
            This is what I THINK happened:
            As the chain rubbed on the SD handle, the handle popped the clip off the master link. The chain plate dropped off, and the chain pulled apart (single 60 chain). So now I try to remember to put masters on "back to back". EX. the next chain forward has the master pointed into the Argo. Also, I put the clip on "against" the normal chain direction, so if something does rub the chain, it's less likely to pop the clip off.

            I don't find one way easier than the other, I find it just as frusterating either way sometimes. It is easier to find them that way though.

              On double 50, I use two zip ties. A piece of coat hangar with a right angle bend is good for fishing the chain under sprockets, etc.
