i have heard of putting in a extra battery on the conquest.. i would like the extra power for some extra lights i plan to run. also when i use the winch lots it would be nice to have that extra power. can anyone tell me where is the best place to put the extra power. and if i can harm my charging system by doing this?

A friend of mine mounted one under his gas tank in his Conquest
I don't remember what size battery, but it seems to me that he has it mounted in a battery box, and that he tossed his Argo floorboard and built a new one out of plywood. He had to notch the new floor around the battery a bit.
I will try to get pics, but it might be a while. He is opposite shift to me, and I don't see him in town often.

Not as far as I know.
If both batteries are low it will put more load on your system, but should not hurt it.
I'm at work with an Electrician right now, and he is telling me it won't hurt anything, JUST MAKE SURE TO HOOK THE BATTERIES UP IN PARALLEL, NOT SERIES.
If the batteries get drawn down from too much winching, or to many lights, it will take longer to charge 2 batteries back up.

So there you go, straight from a "SPARKIES" mouth. lol

Yeah... parallel connections are very important... otherwise on first hookup your winch will run super fast and your lights will be really bright, but then (without anything burning up) your batteries will drain to a point where they will be charged at 6v each and won't work very well.

The winch and trolling motor are the only two devices on an AATV that will draw more power at any point in time than the motor gen/alt/mag can produce at that time and therefore require the extra reserve of power (not counting an over abundance of lights). Given that, if your going to run with two batteries, I would run one dedicated for your primary operations (starting and regular driving) and another dedicated for the winch/trolling motor.

This can be done easily with a solenoid... or can be done with a diode circuit, (or both). The solenoid will allow you to connect the batteries together when you want to (for charging or to transfer power from your "primary battery") and the diode circuit will allow you to charge your secondary battery and when you use the "secondary battery" it won't drain your main one.

Guys i feel i have to mention this. This is just my opinion.

Note: Use caution when wiring is done around the gas tank area. Each gallon of gas is equal to around 3 stick of dynamite. A short, a burn through the tank and you are first to leave the vehicle with no genital parts.

I know that the Avenger's battery is located next to the tank and trust you me i am a bit uneasy about that fact also. Just thought i would mention this, so be careful when you locate your wiring or battery.
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways , cigar in one hand, whiskey in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!!!"

I'm not crazy about the idea either, but with the battery inside a "battery box" properly mounted, I would ride with the guy.

im going to look into doing this to my machine in the near future. was out this weekend and had trouble with starting the machine. after every beer break i would try to start the machine and no luck. had too boost! dont know what the problem is but i havent had this trouble in about a month or so. battery in the back of the machine would also help level it off when swimming.
