Axle Placement

NEED HELP!! Hey guys, I've been changing bearings and seals. How far does the axle push in? when i push it all the way, the sprockets don't have room to slide. My axles had alot of movement before, can I get the drive axle out without taking the tranny out? It's the one under the battery. any advice on this would help, thanks.
