Belt Sqawk-Normal?

I have an 2005 avenger. 250 hrs. I am currently going through everything with a fine toothed comb. I noticed that the belt sqawks pretty good when I am driving in high range and crank on it hard either left or right. I know that it is the belt slipping but I am wondering if you guys have run into this also. It also does this when working hard in low range.

Maybe one of my clutches are due? I don't know so i thought I would throw it out here.......

Belt Worn?

Is your belt worn? That would be my first guess. If it is not then maybe cleaning the faces of the driven cluctch would be my next guess.

Belt squeal

Good Morning,

Some of the earlier model avengers had the problem and if this is not due to normal ware such as the belt or clutch face then you can set up the pressure on the driven clutch ( transmission clutch) by increasing spring tension which will normally make the vehicle perform much better at low RPM and also stop the squeal. I am changing the springs and depending on the cost, I might upgrade my secondary clutch to the newer Avenger style as apparently there were some problems with my older style clutch with the rubber tracks. I have vampires on my machine and notice the problem has gotten more noticeable.

My 2006 Avenger was doing the same thing and with a new belt and a quick clean job on the clutch faces with some brake clean and a clean rag, the squeal was gone. Good luck!

Update:

I finally got that new EFI style clutch installed and I would say it is a noticeable improvement over the original one. really smooth and grabs good right off the start, even in high range.

Our 2005 is doing the same thing, I just ordered a new spring & buttons for the secondary; if that doesn't work I'll follow you lead & buy a new style secondary.

You might want to replace the spring on the drive clutch also. It was about $50 and worth it on my machine.

That's not a bad idea too. Did you do it at the same time you installed the new secondary? or one then the other?

I did them at the same time, so it is tough to tell exactly how much better the new secondary clutch is. I plan on putting my old secondary clutch in for a try next week when I go hunting, just to see the difference.

I had talked to the dealer about the primary, but the feeling was that it was a seconday issue. The new spring should be at the house when I get off work in 10 days, if the rebuild doesn't make it better, I'll take the secondary off the '08 EFI we have and give that a try.
Is your transmision a high or a low speed? ours is a high. In low range it was as fast as our old conquest in high range.

I sure hope it is low geared! The amount of weight I have in that thing when I am hunting I would go for as low gearing as I can get.

I think top speed in low range is about 13mph/20kph. I will check that out though. I do know there does not seem to be alot of difference between high and low range.

Is there something on the transmission that can tell you? Or is this a sprocket size difference thing?

G,H or M

If I undersatand it, it's the letters in the Trans. ser #; G is the lowest and H is the high, I've heard M is in the middle.
