  • Solld the 6 and bought another 8

    Strange things happen sometimes.
A friend of mine stopped by and told me that he had just sold his 6x6 Bigfoot, and bought another Conquest. He said that he knew where there was another good Conquest for sale, if I was interested Hmmmmm.
Anyway, later that day, a guy asks me if I knew of any 6x6 Argo's for sale, so I figure "What the heck", I sold him mine. I go have a look at this Argo my buddy mentioned.
I check it over, it needs a cleaning, some outer brngs, and a little cluth work, but not bad shape at all. I fired it up, and it purrs like a kitten. Don't know for sure what yr it is, but I'm thinking it's about an '88 (The guy selling it said it was an '89 or '90).
Drove it on the trailer and headed for home, $2,000.00 lighter in the jeans:

I won't have any time to work on it till later this fall, but I think it will be a good machine when it's cleaned up. It only has 600hrs on it.

Looks like a pretty good deal.
Well then, it's newer than either of us thought. I guess that it was '99 that the Conquest changed from Double 50 to Single 60 chain in the back then? This one has the Double 50 chain on the back axles.

Always wanted an orange one. My buddy always says:
Leaves are green, the sky is blue, **** is brown, and ARGO'S ARE ORANGE.lol

Ahh the joys of Argo's, well, at least this one I just picked up seems to be in better shape than the one my buddy just got. Although I will probably be working on both of them

nice find rock doctor. from the little research I've done, doesn't sound like yours could be as old as 89... I understand they went to the shorter brake levers in the mid 90s (which you have). judging by your pictures it looks just like my 99. except i see yours has the 20HP kawasaki liquid cooled- standard in the conquests. very nice machine. hey and I installed an outter bearing yesterday. confirmed that a $5.42 bearing works just dandy instead of the $45 argo part. (however I had to make a minor modification to the bearing grease entry port). greased it and saw grease at the bearing seal only, not around the bearing where it seats in the flange- success.

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways , cigar in one hand, whiskey in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!!!"
