  • Siezed Intake Valves (Conquest)

A few weeks ago, a couple guys stopped in at our neighbors cabin looking for a little help. The guy I spoke to had a very heavy "French" accent, and the other guy didn't talk at all (I suspect he didn't speak english). Anyway, he was camped about a mile down the lake from us, and said he needed some Spark Plugs for his Conquest. No problem, my neighbor flips open his Argo Seat, and hands the guy a couple plugs. The guy procedes to tell us that they are not the right plugs, they are "Boat Plugs". I told him that they are correct, and even show him that I have the same plugs for my Conquest. He tells me that I must have a different engine in my Conquest than he has. I let him check my engine to see if it's the same as his. He told us that he was getting spark with his plugs but it looked weak (I think that anyone who can tell a weak spark from a good spark, in broad daylight, must have better eyes than mine). I asked him where he was broke down, and it turned out that his machine made it all the way to his camp, no problem. When he went back later it would not fire at all.........( this doesn't sound like plug problems)........He told us it was fine the yr before, when he put it away for the winter, and seemed good when he left to come out on this trip.........(Uh Oh) I asked him if he had put stabilizer in his fuel, and he said no, but it was fine, as he had topped it up with fresh gas before he left home........ . I tried to tell him about old gas, Conquests, Intake valves, bent pushrods, ect. lol, anyway, I don't think I managed to convince him about anything, but he leaves with the plugs anyway.
Never heard from him again, untill the next morning. It turned out that it was not just a couple guys camped out down the lake from us, it was a whole family, and then some. AND, they were not "Camped" there, they had nothing with them, they had intended to ride in to the lake, fish for a while, then ride back out to their motorhome. They ended up sleeping on the ground, huddled togeather. No tent, no tarps, no extra clothes, not much of anything.
One of the other neighbors just happened to go off that way in the morning, and found them....tired, hungry, sore, miserable looking. He loaded up the wife and kids first, and headed to my place. As chance would have it, my brother had flown in to see us that morning, and was still there.
Nice lady, and kids, we fed everyone breakfast, and loaded the wife and kids into the chopper, and had them flown out to their RV. The guys of the group opted to ride their other machines out, A quad with a flat tire, and a Polaris 6x6.
So anyway, the neighbor that went out in the morning and found them, knew the guy that owned the Argo, and told him that we would go have a look at it for him. Then phone him on the Sat Phone, if we found out what was wrong with the machine.
I went to look at the machine with him

This also ties in with the story, I had the Chopper Pilot wear my headcam when he took the wife and kids out to their RV.
(At one point I heard her say " I don't care if it costs us a Thousand Dollars, I'm getting on that Chopper"

The return trip in the chopper is unedited, so you will be able to see what takes me anywhere from 2-6hrs to travel in the Argo.

Morning coffee and armchair traveling with RD's videos.. that's nice, especially for us lower 48 guys living in suburbia.
