So, here it is the way I got it. It was advertised at $3,000. I had been shopping for Maxes and Argos, and had been shown some of the things to look for. I also looked on this site, and in the end made a good buy. The body had been unbolted from a bracket under the seat, and three of the tires had rubbed through on the right side. I am guessing that happened on it's last trip, probably with a moose loaded on it. After that it did not move for maybe 10 or more years. I pulled a very dirt packed floor out to reveal a well maintained machine. It even had several tools boxes full of spare parts, and little care packages to do shear pins, master links, and that sort of stuff. Lots of tools, mainenance records, etc. It had belonged to a High School shop teacher in Tok, Alaska. I gave the man 1,750, and he said ok. Later, I took it to the MAX dealer in town, after I had worked on it quite a bit and road it, and basically everything done to it besides the patching of the body was just cosmetic and preventative

After a little TLC, we were on the road. Had some flats and busted a shear pin or two, but had everything required to keep rolling. The center tires are runamucks, and the outers are rawhides. have been recommended to switch to all rawhide types. I am wondering if I can get bigger tires in there, I see there are some size disparities between runamuch and chevron, or whatever, when it comes to tire height. So, added a fiberglass reinforcement to keep the rack from tweeking the body so bad, did lots of aerosol, a good lube, and didn't even dope up the tires. The service records showed the shifter replaced in 93, so maybe they are all just a bit lose. It stays in gear. The 16hp Tec does ok. It does backfire and runs a bit rich. I wonder about that. Also, it is extremely loud, and I wonder if that can be helped. The brakes seem to need pretty regular adjusting, and I have not gotten that all right yet, but it has lots of power, and just floats over tundra. It picks up caribou good with it's 1,500 lb sears winch, and it goes straight up and straight down mountains, and loves a wet trail. I added the cover, I am thinking of adding some soft windows to stay warm, and I am basically just loving it. I want to build a plow, and I am having a hell of a time mounting my johnson 4hp outboard. I think it would be a good outboard, it is a two cylinder outboard. So, there you be, my big dream coming together in a cheap package. I can't even move this thing around the yard without a kid wanting on. I mounted a hitch on it that came with it, I think it was factory, and I plan on making a trailer. I moved a dryer to the house the other day. I just like it.
