  • I need to replace bearings/seals and need help

I need to replace bearings on my 2004 bigfoot. Anyone know how much these bearing kits run from Argo? Also, are there any compairable companies out there that service our seals/bearings? Has anyone tried Motion Industries. Anyone have a part number from MI?

I would have thought this info would have surely been a sticky?

A recent quote from my dealer:

    part# 101-35 ball bearing - 1.25: $38
    part# 101-41 ball bearing - 1.0: $30

You can call Buffalo Bearing at 716-874-1720 and buy:

    UC206-20-R3 (for 101-35): $13
    UCX05-16 (for 101-41): $13

The R3 means it is triple sealed. I don't remember if I bought the UCX05-16 as an R3* so I left it off but that price may also be for a triple sealed bearing. The guy at Buffalo Bearing (sorry, I forget his name) has been working closely with someone on 6x6world - most likely someone with a Max (I would guess JPSwift1?) - and has a knowledge of the issues with AATV bearings. Be sure to mention that you have an Argo or he will start talking millimeters on ya.

*I think the inner isn't triple sealed. As I recall the triple sealed bearing was something he and his AATV connection worked out for outer bearing problems.

[edit] forgot about your seal question.

    102-14 oil seal CR# 12361: $2
    102-15 oil seal CR# 12379: $2

From dealer - you'll need both per axle.

Also, SAS Bearings has the UC206-20 on their website. Contact Sally to order the UCX05-16s.

I just replaced the outer bearings on my Bigfoot & bought them from Motion Industries, $12.68 ea. I used "Garter" spring seals and they ran me approx $3.75 ea.

MCoy please give us the part numbers. Also, thanks to everyone who has responded. I really think ARGO is trying to rip all of us off. I won't own another one of these machines (if I have to give 47 for a bearing)

I just got back from the ARGO dealer, and they wanted as follows

          1. Outer Bearing 47.00

          2. Flanges 30 something each

          3. Inner Bearing 37.00

          4. Gaskets were like 7.00 a piece

          5. Seals were 14 or 19 I can't remember.

also, get this...................the front right piece of chain was 57.00! I didn't even get into shipping.

I'll try & get the #'s, etc. tomorrow. I know that I still have the boxes for the seals in the shop. If I'm not mistaken, the # for the outer bearing is:
UC206-20, but I'll have to check tomorrow to make sure. I bought the bearings through Motion Industries, but they sent me around the corner to PTI to pick them up because PTI doesn't sell to the public. I had checked with Applied Technology (formerly Dixie Bearing) before I went to Motion and they had quoted me $25.00 each for the same bearing and I would have also went to PTI to pick them up. Anyway, enough of my rambling,I'll double check the #'s tomorrow.

                LOL

Waylon, I bet I gave you the part #s you are looking for - check you parts manual; well, except for the seals that McCoy used. Anyway, you need to talk to another dealer, Here's what I got from mine (buyargo@gmail.com):

605-97 outer flange assembly: $28 (This includes the seals)
                605-63 outer bearing flange: $3
                605-89 cork gasket: $1
605-99 cork gasket: discontinued - use silicone
                101-20 flange (grease) : $5

He was having a sale in Sept. on his in stock items so the prices may be as much as 10% higher now, but that still beats what you were told.

For chain check ebay. I recently picked up 40ft of Morse 50-2 roller chain for $200 and felt plum tickled after talking to the local source. ($17 per foot!!!)

The HKK on there is Japanese and I hear it is pretty good - you could get 40ft of that right now for $120 plus shipping. Oh yeah, I have a conquest and need more than 30ft and less than 40ft, you probably use 10 feet less and not 50-2 everywhere...

The # for the bearings I bought is UC206-20, PTI brand, purchased through Motion Industries. I purchased all but one of my seals @ Bearing Distributors, Inc. in Charlotte, NC. The #'s for the seals are as follows:

                  TCM Part 12182TB Replaces 12386 / 471737

                  TCM Part 12172TB-BX Replaces 12364 / 471413

Bearing Distributors had all but one of the seals and Motion Industries was able to cross it to a SKF seal. Motion was slightly higher on the seals than Bearing Distributors.

I finished the replacements about a week ago and only have an hour or so on the bearings, so I can't really vouch for their quality. The might be great or they might suck, but for the price, I was willing to give them a try. I did have the machine in the river for about 5 minutes to check for leaks and not one drop of water entered the tub.

Just occured to me.. we might take the springs off the lip seals and use them that way. That would give us an option between the stock seals, and seals with the springs. That might reduce the grooving on the axles.

Just wanted to thank EVERYONE here for such great help. Maybe this might not be so bad afterall.

Since I have a 6x6 bigfoot, and don't use tracks or axle extensions; will I need to worry about this axle groove thing?

I don't think the tracks or axle extensions put any additional stress on the seals. I'm gonna go out on a limb here (and correct me if anyone thinks I'm wrong)... I'm gonna say that the axle groove situation is a function of:

                        1. how clean you keep your axles, (ie- frequently cut off any grass that wraps around the axles), and

                        2. how often you grease your outer zerks. which purges the moisture out of the grease cavity.
