  • New to the Forum and new to Argo's

    Hi all

In the past I have never really paid much attention to the argo products except for watching Jim Shockey use then on TV. Well by a stroke of fate I happened to be in an Argo dealership with my Brother-in-law and started looking at one closer. Eventually I asked to test drive one and needless to say I am hooked. I drove an avenger 650 6X6 but I think I am in the market for an 8X8. I have been an avid duck hunter for several years and the argo is going to replace my duck boat and my ATV. There is tons of info on this forum and I am sure I will be asking lots of questions in my quest for my first Argo.

As much as I would like to buy a new unit I just don't think I can afford it. What types of changes in the older models should I look for? I do not want to get something that is wore out or under powered. I will probably be interested in an early 2000's conquest 8X8. I have seen some older Responses for sale but I think that may be under powered.

One last question, what is the width of an Argo from the outside of the tires? I need to load it on my trailer but I have added sideboards to the trailer and ony have 54" width up 15" high. if I take the sideboards out I have 60" width.

welcome, try doing a search on the forum for tips on buying a used Argo there is quite a bit of info there. As far as the measurements go without the tracks a Conquest or Response is 119 in long and 57 1/2 in wide. Some things to watch for when shopping for an Argo is to pull both floor pans check for excessive rust sometimes they sit outside with the drain plugs in and fill with water. Check the chains especially the two to the front axle. Wiggle the tires to check the bearings, jack it up if you can. Test drive it, check the engine for smoke, check the coolant if it's a Conquest, hold the brakes on for a while to see if they hold well and don't bleed down. On the test drive it should feel nice and solid not a lot of chain slapping or grinding going on. Try and find something in the 100 to 200 hour range if you can although a well maintained Argo will last hundreds of hours. Hope this helps good luck!
After the game the King and the Pawn end up in the same Box!
