Loaded up and heavy going, plus a burnt rubber smell,in my mind would equal a slipping belt. Better that than broken parts. Make sure nothing shifted under pressure and touched the exhaust. There is a lot of torque and things can twist.

A burning belt smells different than over heated brakes, I find over heated brakes have a more punjent odor. I'd be checking both, make sure your fan intake is clear too.
After the game the King and the Pawn end up in the same Box!

Any chance you got mud splashed up on the exhaust pipe. That makes a new smell to many folks.
