  • New to Argos - Soft Top Question

Bought a 97 Conquest with 44 hours on it and a convertible soft top. I am trying to figure out how to adjust the top and where the tie down straps are supposed to go. I think the previous owner didn't exactly follow the correct installation instructions. Anyone hav a .pdf of the installation instructions for the full Conquest soft top?

which type of top do you have there are 4 different types of tops that i know of, yours is a '97 so im guessing you have all windows around and turn clips for the bottoms?

Are they to hold the windows when rolled up?

No they are 2 straps that I think go from the top of the top to the body of the Argo. The guy put similar clips that hold the windshield bars( when you are not using the windshield) and had the straps their except that he had them screwed into the black rubber seem thing. Like some kind of tension straps or something. The other end is inside the top up high. I can't snap a few of the snaps with this setup so it must be wrong.

Sorry can't help with that one. I got a question of my own sparkola. I have a half cab very similar to yours. It has no doors or back window and the top has a tear in it.Can you buy the top and if so where?I would fix the tear if i thought i could get some doors.

The two straps may be to hold the top tight at the back if you want to run without the windows in. Similar to a bimini top on a boat..........

                straps

The straps on my 2009 soft top attach with clips to points on the back corners of the body. The attachment points are add ons. Then you adjust the side pipes to tension the top. the curtains zipper on and are snapped to the body.

Thanks That makes sense if the windows are rolled up or are off. About the tear, I don't know if you can get just the top but for what it's worth, that little battery operated hand sewing machine that they sell at the drugstore ( As Seen On TV!!!!!) really works. If its a clean tear I would just sew it back together. Put on the winch, install the bilge and rear handrails and I am on my way. My 6yr old ddaughter broke her wrist tonight so it will be 2 months before she can go with me. She was even planning on bringing her little electronic guitar so she could sing songs on our Maiden Voyage!!!

                    repair

You could take the top to an upholstery shop for repair. Quick fix and they probably have canvas for the repair if required.
Sorry to hear your little one broke her wrist. Hope she is on the mend.
