I have a late 90's conquest, not sure what year. I have the engine and trans out of the machine. I am in the process of checking everything over, changing some chain and bearings. What else should a guy check/do while the machine is tore apart? Any common issues that need to be taken care of? I am also going to install a bilge pump in the machine, as well as install an automotive type alternator. Does anyone have any suggestions or tips as to where in the tub to place the Bilge pump? I am going to guess that it needs to be installed in the front side somewhere.

Yup, the heaviest part of the machine, Either side won't matter as you can compensate by shifting your body weight,(Make sure to put a decent size filter on the end, lots of foreign junk gets in there and wash her out after every trip) good idea to check the frame for any possible cracks, they are designed to flex somewhat, but I know from past experience, I've over flexed and cracked welds. Have a good look at your idler shaft bearings,(The main drive axles off of the tranny) they take the most abuse and I have lost a couple of bearing Flange mounting bolts in this area in my time.Trying to repair, while up to your butt in mud is a night mare.
Other than that you seem to have it well in hand, Have Fun.

suggestions or tips as to where in the tub to place the Bilge pump?

If you can find a pump small enough in diameter and the outlet at the right height, it will fit in the chain well. My pump is a Rule, many years old and I doubt still in production. However I saw one similar at Harbor Freight the other day that looks similar. If anyone wants to try it.. With smooth piping, my Rule pumps a gallon in 10 seconds. Mounted in the chain well behind the first axle, it will remove all but a couple pints of water from the tub.

Two hose clamps daisy chained together for mounting. You have to remove the chain and slide the sprocket over.. it's a tight fit. This is the vanguard/response/bigfoot/conquest model.
