  • Track Extensions

bought a 2001 Bigfoot with l3" plastic tracks (no grip left) . Has anyone tried to put 15" or 18" extensions using 3/4" x 3/4" x 1/8" angle to hold the extra belting on to the original tracks. It would give more flotation and grip . Would it be strong enough do u think to work. I have a 18hp engine so it could handle it. (going to use the argo in deep snow this year and also in the swamp, bog, etc. moose hunting this fall. Do u think the 13" would just work fine as is? Will use in northern Manitoba. Thanks

If you live in an area with uneven ground and trees close to each other i have found that you tend to bend that extra track and create more problems

Thks for the good advice WFO however I don't think I was clear on my intentions. I was going to add 2" or 5" of belting to get a total of 15" in or 18" inches of track(like super tracks) Thks again.

FWIW, I think that as long as you are going to stay in the snow you will be fine with extensions. However, if you intend to run with the extensions in the summer, I think that's asking for trouble. 3/4" angle is VERY easy to bend, and it would only take 1 root, or half submerged log to destroy all your fine work.
I have both standard and super tracks, and find that the standard are better (re, easier on the machine) in the summer anyway, unless you will be strictly running in the boggy muskeg terrain.

Thank You Rock Doctor you just made up my mind for me. I'll stick to my l3" tracks and leave well enough alone. It's like the old saying "don't fix it if it ain't broke" Thanks again for sharing your experience. It's what makes this forum so neat.
