  • What is the ching ching noise

When accelerating things are normal until my rpm's hit a certain spot (Aprox. half throttle)Then I hear this god awful noise CHING CHING........... It sounds like it is coming from one of the clutches. Any clues would be a help.I have a black spring in clutch if this helps. 18hp magnum 8x8 argo thnx. for now. Going for a ride, I'll check in later.

Did you ever find out what the issue was? My 2008 Avenger is having the same symptoms...

My conquest does it only once in awhile. It's coming from the left side on the engine area. I have only heard it a few times and it didn't let long. Every time I heard it is after riding for an extended period of time. The last long ride was about 5 miles round trip and it didn't do it at all. But would be nice to know if it's a working of something catastrophic.

Over time, there have been a number of different exhaust/guard/heat shield designs used. Sometimes things get bent, sometimes bolts get lost or broken off.
Wait till the machine is cooled off, check guards/muffler/shields, ect. Bump everything with your hand, or a deadblow. Try to make a rattle, then figure out where it came from.
I've had heat shields and belt guards make the "Ching Ching" sound. I have the heat shield on one machine wired up to stop a similar sound. I've had to slightly modify my belt guard to stop it from rattling on the heat shield.
I doubt the clutches would make such a sound, but it's easy to pull them off and inspect/clean/lube them. May be worth looking at.

Maybe make sure your driven clutch has room to expand outwards without hitting something. Watch it cycle in neutral while you rev it.

Check and see if your secondary clutch retaining bolt is tight. Gizmo's gets loose and it makes an intermittent, tinny, rattling sound. I now know exactly what it is as soon as I begin hearing it.

My ne stsrted doing that the last time i had it out and it wound up being the rubber motor mounts, they must have just wore out and dropped the motor stand down just enough so that when secondary opened it would rub. Easy to check by reving engine so that driven clutch opens and see if it rubs on motor stand, just as LarryW said.

I had a similar sound on my last ride. It would sound at about Half throtle. It went away when I steered to the left. Ended up being my left steering stick spring. It got quite noisy at times due to my enclosed cab. this was on my '99 conquest.

I had some build up of crud on my brake rotors. When moving, the brake pads would climb then fall, alternately grabbing then releasing the disc. Using the brakes (or steering) the noise would stop because the pads were then either pushed or pulled into a static position.
