  • Conquest outer drive shaft bearings?

I'm in the process of replacing all the chains and wheel bearings in my conquest and now i've noticed that the bearings on the end of the drive shafts are bad. Does the tansmission have to come out to change these? Does the top lid of the Argo have to come off to get the transmission out? Are the the bearings the same as the wheel bearing? Thanks for any help....Randy

The trans doesn't have to come out, the bearings are wheel bearings. Pull the battery and battery box for access to the right outer brg. Remove primary chains of course, and slide sprockets out of the way, unbolt all the bearing flanges. The outer bearings are set screwed to the shaft, the inner ones are a slip fit on the splines, with a set screw riding in the valley of the splines to prevent turning. With all the flanges loose, the shaft will slide inward, the splines pushing through the inner bearing, and the outer end and bearing will come free. If that's a complicated explanation, just unbolt the flanges and grab the shaft and move it around

I use loctite on the set screws.. the outer set screw is all that holds the shaft in position.

      Drive shafts

Thanks, I was hoping the shafts slide into the trans but I wasn't sure.
