Argo transmission disassembly

Hi Guys, I'm trying to get my transmission apart to replace one of the output shaft bearing. I've got the 8 bolts out and the c-clip but it still seems attached. Is there some thing behind these 2 "frost plugs"(see pic) that I need to remove before it will come apart? I'm very afraid of prying anymore on the aluminum case.....been there and broke that!

Yes there are clips behind the frost plugs. I had the same issue when taking my transmission apart lol.

Hi tizbass,good luck taking it apart. I was a little shy on taking mine apart so i took it to a local dealer who supposedly fixed my low range from jumping out of gear. By the time I got around to putting it back in and went for a couple of rides to find out that it still pops out,mr.dealer left the prov. I was wondering if you could post some pics. here so I can see what I am going to open up in the spring.

Thanks for the diagram. I'll be sure to post some pics. I have that popping out of gear problem with reverse. I'll let you know what I find out.

when you get it apart, you might find that you just have to flip the reverse gear. that is all that was wrong with mine, now it works great and cost me some silicone. by the way i had little trouble splitting mine, no snap rings holding anything together.

Hey mine pops out of gear as well. Apparently I'm looking at a tranny job too.

That diagram is good, it shows the snap rings on both sides (part 15) and another I think it was part# 19....Very informative

Do you have to pop the frost plugs off somehow to get at snaprings? If so how

Frost plugs are ususally one time use only (similar to a welch plug in a carburetor) Drill a hole in the centre of the plug (being careful not to bottom out once the drill punches through) then insert a screw driver in the hole and pry it out

I wonder if they are a common size or do you have to go through argo dealers?

I would think they are pretty generic. Check with a bearing supply company or any automotive parts supplier.
