My neighbour has a superwinch x1 1101 model. Is this enough for an 8x8? Tore my old champion apart and it was bad news, no wonder it wouldn't pull, magnet missing off the side wall and totally grimy everywhere.

Hey Mike:
The 2000 pound rating may be getting close to capacity with your 8x8. The rule of thumb I've always used, is to take the winch capacity times 75% and that will give you a close perspective to what your winch will do with a single line pull. Your machine will weigh somewhere around that target weight, especially if you have cargo, and maybe accessories (like a roll cage). I'd say in single line pull you are close to being maxed out. Simple solution though is to utilize a snatch block to double the winches actual capacity. I'd do it that way and save the cost of purchasing a second winch. If you decide to get another winch, I'm a big fan of Champion's 3000 pound rated winch, they are advertised everywhere for less than $150.

It's enough for most situations, and like mentioned a "Snatch Block" should take care of anything else.
I have a 4,200 lb Rule on my Conquest and have found that I can get stuck bad enough to stall the winch on a single line pull, so keep it in mind that in extreme cases you might run out of grunt with the Superwinch.

thanks guys, I guess with snatch block it should be enough for most situations, it does have with it.The only thing that is bugging me is, it doesn't have a free spool and I am wondering how much juice it takes from the battery to unwind. Don't mind spending a couple hundred on something new but have heard only neg comments on champion. The champion that came with my machine never worked right. Not much wonder like I mentioned before only one magnet was still glued, one was broke in half and one was missing.

I have the X2 3000 lb. Most of the time I like to use a snatch block for double line pull rather than single line. Single line pulls faster than I want and the winch really works hard. Double line pulls are just the right speed and the winch works half as hard.
If the price is right I'd say you could get by with the X1 2000 lb but you'll want to set it up for using a snatch block. I welded a u-bolt to a piece of flat bar drilled out to bolt up to the lower two winch bracket bolts for hooking my winch line back to.
