  • Chain sizes and strengths... HDi, Avenger, Conquests...

I was looking at a photo of the new HDi drive system and started wondering about the chains. It looks like Argo went back to double 50 series chains on the HDi Avenger? Interesting that the Avenger 700/750 uses single 60 series but the Conquest before it used the double 50 series like the HDi. Is this correct? I wonder what their reasoning was?

The tensile strenght is something like 13-14k PSI for the 50-2 versus 8-9k PSI for the single 60 series.

If they could get by with single 60, it's a lot cheaper for chain and sprockets, and less weight. I think the Mudd Ox has double 60 throughout. I know the primaries did, when it had a CVT.

Another reason for going to the single 60 was that it's a little more forgiving in it's alignment, especially in heavy body twisting situations.
