I'm currently in the market for an Argo. I have 2 in mind that are available in my area.
Just wondering which is the better deal. Keep in mind I haven't gone to view them yet, just wanted advice before going to see them.
    Details in the ad:
    1st
1993 ARGO Vanguard 6x6, in excellent shape, 16HP B&S motor, all good tires, has windshield, canopy and full belly pan, very well looked after and maintained, asking $3,650
    2nd
1989 Argo 6X6. Great condition. Comes with super tracs, winch. Electric start, 16HP V twin engine. Recent maintenance performed. Runs excellent. Has 6 new tires. Call for more details. Get in and go. Needs sold. $3500

I like that the 89 has tracks and a winch, but 4 years in the difference, but almost same price.
A winch is only about $150-200 and not sure how much a used track costs. I might go with the newer one and add the winch and Tracks after.

    Thanks,
    Steve

I went with a 97 Vanguard instead of a 93 Vanguard and actualy bought new tracks and added a winch, both of which were easy to install. The 97 was only $200 more than the 93. I haven't looked back. The hours on the 93 were actually 375 and on the 97 only 349. Whatever you decide, tear down the carb and clean it or rebuild it. I have found that is the only thing that really gets overlooked in the maint. category. Good luck

Tracks are always high priced I think. New tires arent cheap either. I would go with the 89 I think. I dont know argo enough to say if there was any improvements on the years or not.

Well, decided to go with the 1993 Vanguard, found out he did have tracks so we worked out a deal, got it for $3600.00 after. Not sure if it's a good deal or not, but it's the best I've found so far and about all I can afford right now. I'm going to add a winch and maybe a few other things later. It's been well maintained and the body is in excellent shape. Here's a few pics:

Got my 93 Vanguard Argo yesterday!!

Finally got my 93' Vanguard yesterday. Already mounted a winch on it. Now, what should I do before I take it out on a long venture? It has the 16 HP B&S motor.

            Thanks,
            Steve

Looks nice, we love pictures hint hint LOL anyways have a good check of the engine oil and transmission gear lube. I'd also take all the floor pans out and feel the chains for slop and check your adjusters to make sure that the pads are riding nicely and there isn't any loose parts or wires in danger.
Also I like to give it a quick grease job on the chains and bearings behind the wheels before a first ride. Also if you plan on taking it in the water the tires work best leaving tracks that point in the direction that you are traveling so like this >>>>>>>>>OOO and check tire pressure usually like it around 2-3lbs

What GeorgePD said and i would take a few short runs just to get the skill level up and your confidence. The machine looks well cared for and has very good looking tires. Hope you have a lot of fun in your new ride. I think you did pretty well.

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways , cigar in one hand, whiskey in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!!!"
