  • Letters to Argo about the new HDI

    For you information forum members:

    Dear ARGO,

In 2006 I bought an ARGO Avenger with tracks from Bost Tune Up in Rockwell, North Carolina. I bought this machine to duck hunt in Eastern North Carolina. I mainly hunt in thick swamps and creeks in this area. These swamps are extremely treacherous with stumps and fallen trees everywhere. It is almost impossible to hunt these places in waders, due to the undergrowth, stump holes and broken trees. Purchasing the ARGO Avenger, hunting was great. I was able to hunt places I had only dreamed of getting to. I could not believe how the ARGO maneuvered in these areas. The main drawback on the machine however, was horsepower. Or at least I thought that was the case. In reality, the problem was turning the ARGO, because it took so much horsepower to turn in tight spots. The brake caliper system worked well but, as I said, it took much of the power to turn in tight areas. Regardless, I was hooked and I loved my ARGO Avenger. I could go places no one else could go, therefore I shot many more ducks than I had in the past.

In 2010, ARGO came out with the NEW ARGO 8x8 750 HDi. I researched this new Argo and thought, how could you improve such a good machine as the Avenger? I traded my Avenger in for the NEW ARGO 8x8 750 HDi and was I impressed. I could not believe the difference in the drivability, turning, and power. It drives more like a four wheeler than the straight turn and jerk Avenger. The Avenger was good but this was great. I drive in Hi range most of the time, except when I’m in the swamp, then I change to Lo range for tighter turns and more maneuverability with no loss of power. The vast improvement is in the transmission. The genius behind this revolutionary transmission mind boggling. The engineers who designed this transmission cannot be congratulated enough.

Now when I go duck hunting there are three things I never forget, a gun, shotgun shells, and my ultimate hunting machine. Thank you so much for the hunting experiences I now enjoy with my NEW ARGO 8x8 750 HDi.

    Dear ARGO,

I want to let you know that the NEW ARGO 8x8 750 HDi is everything that I hoped it would be. As you know I use my HDi for fun, so it is a pretty expensive toy compared to the 4 wheeler my friends have. So already having an Avenger, it was hard to put out more money for the NEW ARGO 8x8 750 HDi since I already was riding one. But let me tell you – it was worth it! The NEW ARGO 8x8 750 HDi took all the jerking and throwing you around out of the ride. I can guide it through the trails with so much more case and at a much faster pace. The fuel injection is just awesome. No warm up and the power is there when you need it. The tires make for such a smoother ride. People who have been in my Avenger can’t believe the difference in the ride. I love the HDi brakes. To be able to go down steep embankments and not to have to put my hand in a bind to apply the brakes, is wonderful and less stressful. I can run in Hi range 95% of the time with no problem. But when you need to really get into some tight places, Low range and which allows you to turn on a dime is the stuff. Unbelievable!!

Another thing that I love about the NEW ARGO 8x8 750 HDi is you don’t have to come back in after really putting it through the mill and you feel you have done a bunch of wear and tear to the machine. ARGO has hit a ‘Home Run’ on the NEW ARGO 8x8 750 HDi production.

Philip, those letters are on the argo web site. I guess they are signed, but not notarized

This is the reaction of everyone who drives them. If you have not driven one you must try it at least once. Drive a regular transmission Argo first to get a feel for the machine and them drive the 2010 HDI. There is a world of difference. Even on pavement the machine with tracks is very easy to maneuver. I really enjoy my 2006 Avenger, but drive a 2010 often so i know there is quiet a difference. At first look a lot of people did not like it because the counter-rotation was not very fast.......but it works and works well. You will be impressed.

Thanks Roger, I should have known!, Argo's website. Lewis I do not doubt that you are right about the HDI but I'm dreaming of a new super Duty in the fall of 2011(mine is 6 years old) and trading up from my 2007 EFI is probably not going to bring out my wife's best features! I'm hoping that I hate the thing.Haha

What I really want is the Frontier 6x6 with an Admiral transmission, the bigger axles, 25" tires. I hope they will come out with with this much improved Frontier this fall. The counter rotation and the shorter machine would be great for my area. An 8x8 Frontier with and admiral would also have to be a very strong consideration. Not sure but one of the videos I saw had what looked like the 6x6 HDI frontier being delivered in the far east. I don't know if it was a test mule or if they are already getting updated machines. Anyone know?

I know your pain Philipatmaxfour, it is very hard to drive one and walk away. They make them in black like my 2006 as i am constantly reminded.
