  • 25 hp kohler

hi guy's I have 88 8x8 and going to do a motor swap it has a 18 p kohler in it now but it has issues with over heating so i can get a very good deal on a 25 hp kohler it has a 1 1/8 shaft and the original has a 1" shaft. what kind of mods do you think I will need to do will this motor fit in is it to big for the tranny to handle hope to hear from some of you more experienced argo people

    thanks scott

Well I have the same machine as you so im very interested in this. I would think that you could easily use the Argo clutch that the 25hp would of came with factory in an Argo.

you will have to get a new clutch FROM ARGO or have your clutch milled for the bigger shaft (this is my suggestion)

I went for the Comet duster 94c clutch that is sold for the 1.125" shaft but found the hard way the belt width from ARGO is a lot wider than what the comet can handle (and no the conversion kit from comet WILL NOT FIT the 1.125" 94c clutch)

while you have the engine out of your argo, consider tweaking it for better efficiency. I'm going mid-engine in a 1987 8x8 and the honda GX620 really woke up with the advanced timing key, the shaved head and the mild porting to cut the sharp edges inside the valve ports. I cost me less than 90$ and made a huge difference.
